Mammoth Solar Flare February 14th
Londonderry has a chance to see the Northern Lights tonight. The sun has become extremely active this week with a incredible show captured by NASA on Valentines day.
These "X-class flares" are the first in more than four years, they started at 8:56pm February 14th. These flares are the most powerful of all solar events and can trigger radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms according to NASA. The flare sent a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) to earth at 900 KM/second, it arrived last night at about 10pm.
