Riemer Rescue June 2007
Riemer Rescued, trapped in North Londonderry Bog
A Friesian horse foundered chest deep in a Londonderry bog with its rider Tammy Verani at 1:00 pm this afternoon in North Londonderry was successfully rescued by the Londonderry Fire Department. Under the direction of Captain Cardwell a team of eight firefighters created a bridge across the swamp leading the 16 hand tall, 1400 pound gelding to safety.
Normally riding dressage Tammy Verani decided to take a 30 minute trail ride. The ride changed when the horse began sinking in the bog. Tammy was able to get free and call for assistance to her husband John Verani. When the Londonderry Fire Department arrived on the scene they realized that this animal was deep into the wooded area over two miles from Sanborn Road.
