Phoenix in the Parmenter Barn October 2007
Phoenix rises to the Occasion in the Parmenter Barn
What a venue! How fitting too, the Parmenter Barn for years sat under tarps at the Morrison House Museum complex on Pillsbury Road. It too rose again to display its grand cathedral elegance as only an old barn can do. One can not help but gaze up as you approach the structure. On the exterior is a copula that was replicated for the barn topped with the weather vane from the historic Robbie House here in Londonderry, today it shines a beacon to attend Sunday’s events.
As you enter the interior surrounded by artifacts the grand 1859 post and beam barn draws you into the intimate performance area set up by the back door of the barn. Once used as a pass through, since the team of horses could not turn around or back easily. Today the stage is framed by the mammoth door as the transom over the door streams in the fall sunlight.
