Luckily, I had my card already, so was able to skirt around them and head down to the subway platform. But alas, that too was packed with a huge crowd lugging lawn chairs, coolers, folding tables, kids…all aching to descend on the Washington Mall that morning for Glen Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally.
It took three tries, but I was eventually able to squeeze on to the Metro, Washington DC’s pristine subway. Luckily, I had no lawn chair, cooler, or kids with me. But I did have my morning cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and as soon as I squeezed on, was immediately confronted by a woman who blurted out “They said we couldn’t bring drinks on the train.”
